Sometimes opportunities are born out of a curious mind. Agriculture has a myriad of opportunities, especially for the youth, beyond food production. Bernard Ojiambo grew up watching his farther handle bee hives with skillful hands and eke a living out of the bees’ coordinated activities. This sparked a curiosity in him, and a desire to scale the heights of apiculture was born.
Today, Bernard is a respected Agriprenuer in the Apiculture space, creating wealth not only for himself but for fellow youth in his community. Having trained at Baraka Agricultural College in sustainable Apiculture, Bernard is a professional hive maker, skilled in colony management, bee products making and marketing.
He founded Honeybee Ventures, a retail shop for hives, and bee products including honey, wax, ointments, propolis, venom and pollen. “I sell one hive at Ksh20,000, a kilogramme of honey at Ksh900 and100 grams of beeswax at Ksh150,” he says.

A renowned expert in bee handling Bernard is currently working with 54 farmers from his community, and he manages over 2,500 hives within Busia County. In addition, he trains other youth onskills such as managing hives, harvesting honey, rearing queen bees, and producinghigh-value products like propolis, royal jelly, and ointments.
